Please help me save Playlist items

I opened a project and exported it from mlt to mp4.
I opened the mp4 and dragged it to the timeline
In the timeline I segmented items I wanted to save as Playlist items.
When I click on a Playlist item from Shotcut the entire project opens with the item showing as a selected segment in the project.
When it plays it doesn’t stop at the end of the item, but keeps playing the rest of the project after it.
I want each playlist item saved independently so I can play them as stand alone items.
In the export list I can see them exported with the correct segment time length but I don’t see where they are saved independently.
If I right click to see where the file location is, the file it points to is not any smaller Playlist item, but the large original source file.
What do I need to do to get the result I want?

A single click on a playlist item only selects the playlist item, nothing else. A double click on a playlist item opens the item in the Source player. Either way, it never “entire project opens.” Of course, if you have a project loaded and single or double click a playlist item, the project is still open. Maybe you forgot to choose File > Close or New.

I want each playlist item saved independently

In Export you have to choose From = Each Playlist Item, but it is not clear you have done that. If you did that then they are saved in the location you provided.

Sorry, I apologize for being such a rube dolt. I’ve used Shotcut a lot, but I certainly am still pretty much of a learning newbie. I still don’t get your advice. Let me try to get clear step-by-step.

First, open the project file:
The only way I can see my playlist is to open the project mlt file. I can’t open the
playlist without doing that. It is associated with that project. So, the very first
thing I have to do is that, right?

Second, I select Playlist from the top menu:
Now I see all the items in the Playlist that I created. In this case I see four items.

Third: You mention that maybe I forgot to close the file, so OK, I close the file.
Now I have nothing open. How in the world am I supposed to open my File List?
Clicking on Playlist when my mlt file is closed shows nothing.

If the mlt file is closed, selecting Export gives me no “From = Each Playlist Item”
option. In fact, even if I first open the mlt (the only way I can then see any items
in Playlist), selecting one (or multiple files) then selecting Export, also gives me
no such option. ???

How is it that I get to that Export = Each Playlist Item option? All I see there are
Frames, Videos, Markers ad Objects, and EDL.

Again, what I want to do is to be able to somehow save my Playlist items so that I can play them (all or individually) independently from the mlt project.

I don’t know if it helps, but here is a screenshot of my open project with the Playlist items.

I see that I can only post one screenshot, so I can’t show you what I see in the Export options. Thanks for your help and your patience.

You can share additional captures in separate posts.

Here’s what I see in my Export panel:

Your first message was confusing, so I gave corrections. I did not say you must close immediately before export. I was not providing step by step instructions like this

  1. open the project with the playlist
  2. go to Export
  3. set From = Each Playlist Item
  4. click Export File
  5. a dialog opens
  6. the first field in the dialog is the location where it will save the exports
  7. good luck and farewell

There is no Export option that allows me to set From = Each Playlist Item
I mentioned that, asking how I get to that. I couldn’t send you a screenshot, but here it is now.

Yes, there is. Watch the video above. Most people use the Export panel. I did not say “File > Export in the menu”. There is a button in the main toolbar labeled Export as well. You can click that to reveal the panel.

Thanks. I told you I was still a learning newbie. I don’t have to watch the video. The moment you called my attention to the toolbar button labelled Export, that cleared up my confusion. Everything worked smoothly then. I absolutely appreciate your patience. My great thanks to you!
