Please consider hiding a peace of a video (chunk) too, not a full track only

I read that better multicam support in the roadmap. With this simple feature will be easier to edit multiline projects.

You can do that.
Select the clip you want to hide. In the properties tab set Track to none.

That hides the clip. You can do that with audio as well.

With all his recent posts for removal of UI elements I’m convinced the OP is using a 10" netbook .
Shotcut is one of the cleanest/uncluttered video editors I’ve used.
