Placeholder not shown when dragging from the playlist to the timeline

When dragging a file from the playlist to the timeline, there used to be a white placeholder shown that indicated where the clip was going to be inserted.

For example:

Now however that has disappeared:

I can still insert a clip, but the placeholder isn’t shown.

I suspect it’s some setting somewhere but I can’t find one that affects it.

I’ve tried restarting Shotcut, and starting a new project, but it’s still missing.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

What is your current Shotcut version ?

This placeholder is present for me in the latest version (25.01.25, released yesterday)
I’m on Windows 10.

The timeline on both videos looks different and in MusicalBox the timeline looks like in your first video.
Maybe the problem is the magnification of the timeline.

Rectification:

It works when the Playlist View is set to Icons or Titles, but not when it’s set to Details

It works in some other less precise way. Latest version.

Ah yes, this is it! Changing the playlist view fixes it.

Strange though, I’ve never changed the playlist view before (didn’t know you could!) - I wonder if this is something that’s changed in the latest version.

(I’m also running 25.01.25)

Anyway, sorted, many thanks!

Looks like something changed indeed.
I checked the previous version (24.11.17) and the placeholder is visible when the Playlist is on the Details view.

Thanks for checking that - good to know I hadn’t done something other than update the software!
