Photos being cropped?

Hoping somebody can help me. I’ve added several photos to my timeline 4032x3024 and for whatever reason they are being cropped. I tried resizing them to 1920, but I still get the same results with the photos not filling the frame, getting the black letter boxing bars. Anybody know why this may be happening?

Hi @speedhausdesigns

4032x3024 is a 4:3 ratio
What are your project dimensions?
If you try to import a 4:3 object in a 16:9 project (e.g. 1920x1080), you will get black bars.

To get rid of black bars, here are your options:

  • match the aspect ratio of the project’s Video Mode to that of the source. Good luck getting all sources to have the same aspect ratio.
  • Add the Crop: Source video filter and check the Center checkbox. This applies true cropping where parts of the source are removed.
  • Add the Blur: Pad video filter. This replaces the black padding with a blurred, zoomed in copy of the source as the background.
  • Add the Size, Position & Rotate video filter and change the Size mode to Distort and resize it to fill the frame. This stretches the image, which might get ugly, which is why it is named “distort.” An advanced method is to add the Elastic Scale video filter after this to reduce distortion around a subject area (center) by making the scaling non-linear (not distorted in the center, distorted on the sides).
