I have lots of experience with Shotcut and have made very complicated projects in the past, and through that time I’ve learned how to deal with numerous issues regarding performance, but I’m trying something new and I’m running into issues I’ve never seen before.
My project is simple. It’s less than 2 minutes long and at the most has 6 tracks layered, which isn’t crazy at all compared to what I’ve done in the past.
It is my first time using GPU effects because I noticed that the projects were using very little of my integrated graphics power in editing and exporting. When I tried exporting the project the first time, it worked perfectly with no issue.
However, ever since then, the export has died super early on (<4%). The issue is not due to GPU usage, it’s due to memory. No matter how much I try to clear my cache, close processes, reboot, etc, the melt process takes up like 70% of my PC’s memory right away (in my other projects, it stays around 20%).
Any ideas as to why this is happening? Is it actually an issue with GPU effects, or could it be something else? The fact that it exported once makes me think it isn’t that, but I only run into issues with this project. Also, I understand that you can’t just convert a project with GPU effects into one without, but is there any way to perhaps make the current project run as if it didn’t have GPU effects? (Converting all of the GPU filters to video filters isn’t sufficient since some of them, like fade-ins/outs, wouldn’t work anymore.)
Interesting, how exactly do you do this? Whenever I select my project, it requires that I have the GPU Effects setting enabled, and I’m not sure how to change that.
Also, yeah, I might go and try to reproduce the issue if that’s what it takes, though that will take time to do, which I don’t have right this moment.
Do you have a separate GPU? As I mentioned, I’m using my Windows 11 computer’s integrated graphics, which I believe should still work since it’s still not being used that heavily during these past exports, but maybe that’s an issue idk.
It sounds to me that you don t have the latest version. What does Help->About say?
And yes, it should work with integrated gpu but you won’t see 100% gpu usage. It’s complicated (I think there’s a FAQ entry about what and how uses gpu).
Ahh, yeah, I wasn’t updated to the latest version. I updated and found the way to convert between the two, and I was able to get it working just fine. I guess I’ll just rock this then. Thank you for the help!
Also, it’s worth bringing up that a buddy tried exporting the same project on his PC, which is much more powerful than mine and has a dedicated GPU, and he experienced the exact same issue I did (export fails at 3% due to high memory usage). If I find the time, I will try to reproduce the bug.
