Hi, up to version 24 (I use it on a Mac) the thumbnails in the playlist had marks on it like “#12”, “#13” and so forth. So I could directly see by looking at the last clip in the playlist whether the number of files edited in the playlist matches the number of files in the source folder.
Now this numbering display has seemingly disappeared, so I have to manually count the files in the playlist. Is there a way the get the numbering back?
How it works now:
In the Playlist, open the Bins tab and select the Not in Timeline bin.
That will show you all the Playlist clips that are not currently used in the Timeline.
One thing you can do is to stop mirroring a file system folder into Playlists. Why bother? It is not necessary, and in the Files panel you can view a file system folder within Shotcut in a manner similar. Rather, treat the playlist and its new bins as a tool. For example, you might use it to organize differently than the file system. Or use it to stage media to use with the slideshow generator or batch clip export. Just a thought.
Hi MusicalBox, thanks for the hint. Following this hint I see the list of edited files, as I can see them already in the playlist itself. But what I look for is an indication of the number (!) of files in there. So I’d like to see a “count” or “number” of the files in the playlist. Or did I get your answer wrong?
Ok, this is what I usually do with ShotCut: I have, say, 40 files in a (macOS) folder which need editing. So I drag the files, one by one, into the timeline, edit them, and copy them, along with the edits, to the playlist. Once I am through with the 40 files, I do a batch export so all the files will be exported in one operation where I don’t have to interactively watch them being processed.
Before I start the batch export I usually make sure that no file has been forgotten. Therefore I found it very handy to get the number of files in the playlist by one look at the last item in the playlist. That’s why I miss this.
The numbering system falls apart when you can reorder things and only some are visible based on bins and searches. I will add a count like I have done for Files. A workaround in the meantime is select all, remove them, and undo. Then, the undo History panel will tell you how many.
I’m confusing. Are you using this numbering clips(sub clips?) in order to split slightly long video into short source clips ? I would like to look over the source media in advance before spliting. I know the triming in, out, and + features. But I have the same name. I would like to ensure the numbering clips feature.
