When I try to open any video file I get “failed to open …”

Please see the FAQ . Something like anti malware is likely blocking the libmltavformat DLL. This is not something we can fix. It is a problem on your system.
I have not found a suitable topic in the FAQ.
I tested v25.05 portable it in a freshly installed VM, without any software installed. No video file could be opened. So it can’t be that the libmltavformat DLL is blocked by protection software!
I then downloaded v25.03 portable and tested it. Using this version I was able to open all videos.
Weird that you are the only one to report this so far yet thousands of people are using it with no problem including myself. Maybe the problem is that a fresh system does not have a recent enough MSVCRT. I do not know the problem. If you figure it out please help us.
If I’m really the only one experiencing this error, it’s not worth looking for the cause. I am now working with version 25.04 portable and it works perfectly for me.
You wrote that you are using the 25.05 successfully. Please allow me to ask if you are really using the portable version. When I install the 25.05, the error does not occur for me either! Only when I use the portable version does the error occur.
A comparison shows that avcodec-61.dll, avdevice-61.dll and avfilter-10.dll are missing in 25.05 portable.
