Noob question: show last frame of movie some seconds

I have several short movies, sometimes just a few seconds, mostly birds.
It is not a problem to merge all these short segments in one long movie, but the segments are too short for a nice transition.
Is it possible to extend the last frame of each segment with some seconds?
So a sort of transition that holds the last frame for a few seconds, and then dissolves to the next segment in the timeline.

Shotcut doesn’t have a freeze-frame feature.
