My mkv file in shotcut turned into a mlt

I’m new to shotcut and my mkv file in shotcut turned into a mlt file and now I cant open it. can someone help.

When you Save or Save As, your project is saved to a MLT file. Shotcut doesn’t change any of your existing media files. MLT files are opened with Shotcut.
