Muting a video doesn't work for me

Using Shotcut 16.12 on a Mac with OS X 10.11.6 (ElCapitan), I cannot mute the video, no matter which suggested method I use (ShotCut-Video TUT: Mute and Detach Audio).
App window with corresponding settings attached.
Described options are:

• Muting in filters list
• muting in properties
• activating M gadget in timeline
  All mute options activated the sound/noise of the mp4 video still remains, also visible at the peak meter (green bars)

As a workaround for now, you can use ffmpeg to split the video track from the file. Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QvPEwOjO1o

Many thanks for that - I already have the ability to do that with Quicktime pro - but the ShotCut tutorial showed it really attractive.
(… and it already worked in a previous version, so I believe, everything will be fine again with the next update).
