hi, i was going to convert a music video from MP4 to MP3, but i edited it first.
the steps i was thinking was :
- open mp4
- create another layer for easier moving parts for cutted parts
- maybe adding fade in / fade out
- then export into MP3
but it failed.
so i have to export it into MP4, then open it one more time, then export it into mp3.
i maybe doing the steps incorrectly, or maybe theres steps that i need to follow. but, i think to edit and to convert, should be as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4.
below is the screen recorder, and the log
MP4 to MP3
MP4 to MP3.txt (66.5 KB)
Most likely, the option was named incorrectly. It is a âcontainerâ, if translated back from Russian to English. That is, this is where something goes, but if something has the wrong dimensions, then it wonât fit there.
You need to select not a container, but a codec, this is on the left. I do not know which codecs work with this container.
I think you used the Stock > Default export preset where you changed the MP4 format to MP3, then you made some adjustments in the Audio tab.
You also need to check Disable Video in the Codec tab.
But the proper way would be to choose the Audio > MP3 preset instead of the Stock > Default one.

Thanks for your input, and yes i think i made a mistake over there. But, i put this topic into Suggestion Topic, because i think it will be easier to just make Shotcut able to âdetectâ if someone already choose Export to MP3, that means, he/she didnât need to choose the Preset anymore, just override it into Manual Set. Or maybe an information such as, âYouve override the preset, would you still continue with your current set?â
But, thanks anyway! This is just a suggestion, im still going to use Shotcut as its rich in features.
There have been similar suggestions in the past regarding the special options but the problem is this is the âAdvancedâ mode of the panel, there are hundreds of different codecs, containers, formats and even more hundreds of advanced arguments for EVERY different encoder. For example MP3 doesnât accept video streams but there are a bunch of containers that allow either video only, audio only, video+audio, video+1 subtitle track, video + audio + complex subtitles, etc.
It would really be impossible to cover everything and just covering a few of them would still end up in a wall of text with a bunch of exceptions that change between different releases.
