By mistake I ended up with some footage recorded at 50fps. Most of my footage is 25fps. I’ve heard that some editors will simply remove every other frame; making 50 into 25. Is this true of Shotcut / does it handle it?

This brings up an interesting question, while mixing frame rates that are multiples of each other would it be better to work at the highest used framerate or lowest? (25fps inside 50fps vs 50fps inside 25fps)

It depends on the player/delivery capabilities and limitations and maybe also a look (aesthetic). It also depends on if you want slow motion as that can use frames available in a higher frame rate source that would otherwise be dropped.
