I have been using Shotcut for quite some time on Windows 7 with a 1366 x 768 display (laptop) and found the GUI layout very easy to arrange. However on Linux Mint 18.1 (running extractedShotcut.zip) with a Full-HD screen (1920 x 1080) the scaling of the menu-boxes is very large, although the font size is quite small. This layout makes using filters quite hard. The audio peak meter (height) doesn’t fit into its area and ends up with a scroll bar. On the other hand having Shotcut run on Linux Mint with a 1366 x 768 display looks “normal”.
The timeline window cannot be dragged to be made smaller on Linux (but it can on the Windows version).
