Make subtitle line match clip length

I’ve been using the subtitle feature a lot lately and I realised one time consuming thing I do very often is to resize the current subtitle line to the length of the clip below it. Currently adding a new line seems to default to a 2 second subtitle length (which I personally think should be 3 seconds, but it depends a lot on the type of video) so I have to resize it after every single new line.

I think either a keyboard shortcut (which would change an existing line) or a new checkmark in the subtitle panel’s options to default new lines to the length of the clip directly below it would be very helpful.

If there are multiple video and audio tracks, would it only look at the topmost track?

Oh that’s a good question, I’d say prioritise the selected clip, then check if there’s a clip starting exactly at that point (just in case there’s a long overlay that spans multiple clips), otherwise use topmost clip found at trackhead.

Edit: hmm, actually, if nothing is selected then the nearest clip (either start or ending point) to the trackhead.
