Make Proxy failed (Could not find tag for codec h264 in stream #1, codec not currently supported in container)

Hi,
I’m adding an .mp4 file to the timeline with proxy enabled but the proxy generation fails. Any ideas, I was thinking maybe VBR?

I can proxy with ffmpeg (extract from VS C#), with the following as an example on the same file:-

process.StartInfo.Arguments = " -y -i " + “\u0022” + src + “\u0022” + @" -vf scale=w=-2:h=360:flags=bicubic+accurate_rnd+full_chroma_inp+full_chroma_int -codec:v mpeg4 -g 5 -qscale:v 8 -c:a copy -y " + “\u0022” + dst + “\u0022”;

Here are the details from Shotcut 20.10.31

Output stream #1 refers to a 320x180 thumbnail (encoded as cover art). The proxy process appears to be trying to convert the cover art to H.264 which I’m not sure is supported as an “attached pic” format.

As a workaround, you could remux the file with ffmpeg to leave out input streams 1 and 3 using the -map parameter. Proxy should work on the remuxed file.

Hi Austin, I’ll give that a go.

I’ve not tried this yet but rather than having the workaround, could we not apply the above working parameters to the ffmpeg proxy process within Shotcut and at least anyone who unknowingly has cover art will not then face the issue?

This is fixed for the next version 20.11 because it was simple, low risk change to use similar style argument we already use in Convert and Reverse.

Cheers Dan

@shotcut This bug is also seems to happen on Extract Sub-clip

We are not specifying which kinds of streams to extract. I had hoped ffmpeg would be smarter about this and skip over streams it cannot copy a subset of. In addition to audio and video there are subtitles, data, and attachments (this bug being about attachment). It is too late to make a fix for this for the next release, but I made a change for the version after that.
