On Windows 11, magentism turned into a nightmare with version 26.9.27. It is basically impossible to get a clip to EXACTLY snap to the marker reliably. Extremely often, you will end up one frame off.
Again, I am a heavy user and this almost never happened to me in older versions, I have to set the timeline zoom to insane levels (where a very few seconds fit into the timeline when using shotcut fullscreen), in order to get this to work again.
It does not matter whether I drag a clip within a track or from one track to another, it also does not seem to matter whether all my source material has the exact same FPS. Even if I only use 30.000000 FPS source material and create my own custom 30.000000 FPS video mode, this does not improve anything. Note that it also happens if I specifically set the marker to the end of a clip via Alt+Arrow keys and then drag something supposed to snap right onto it. I very often get 1-frame transitions instead.
I know that shotcut always was a little bit finicky in this regard, but this has deteriorated a lot. I rarely do projects with less than several hundred cuts among at least 6 video tracks and 3 audio tracks. Since I use filters on video tracks to determine certain audio behavior (e.g. compressed, live, mute) - which is a huge time-saver - I really end up dragging clips from track to track quite frequently.
I used to get away with zero to one instances of this during a whole project, now the chance of this happening increased about hundredfold - almost completely destroying the huge productivity gain I get from the new audio ducking feature (which is a real life-saver for me)
Could this be a side-effect of the UI-changes with the rounded edges for clip borders in the timeline?
It is probably not the rounding; there was a change specifically related to snapping, particularly for snapping to another clip. From the release notes:
Fixed moving a Timeline clip next to another with snap while zoomed out possibly inserting 1 blank frame.
Is your problem mainly snapping to markers?
I was able to easily reproduce the problem snapping to markers even in version 26.8 after I zoom out of a certain project a few times.
Not neccessarily “markers”. Let’s say I set the position in the timeline either by click or by any other means, e.g., using PgUp/PgDown to move by one second, then drag a clip to snap to that position - probably to create a transition, i will NOT end up with a 1-second transition, but e.g. with a 1,033 long one. Same if I use Alt-Arrow to get to the end of a clip, then drag another right there, I will end up with a single-frame transition instead of adjacent clips.
(Thanks for the extremely quick response!)
This is fixed for the next version. Snapping to the playhead was a regression due to some of its cosmetic change (not only thickness, which has since been reduced, but something called pixel grid snapping to reduce the appearance of thickness changing with fractional display scaling). Snapping to markers did not regress as I mentioned I could easily reproduce it in v26.8, but now that is fixed too. It now correctly looks at these objects time values instead of their rendering coordinates. IOW, in previous versions, playhead snapping was also bad but made worse in v26.9. Now, it is better than ever!
I can give you a link after tomorrow’s build if you want to try it.
Where do you post your videos? I would like to check them out.
Yes, please, I would in fact love to try the latest build. I am using shotcut for several hours a day and a fix would be a big improvement in my workflow.
https://www.youtube.com/@flutterby Outdoor content, mainly long-distance hiking and mountaineering - often in stunning scenery. Channel language is Austrian German, though - in fact a distinct dialect somewhat close to Viennese. The automatic subtitles and dubs are not to be trusted - most likely they will not make any sense at all, since the original is full of witty banter and wordplay, but also geographic names and specific climbing terminology.
Here is a link, but you might need to do something special in your browser to let it download:

First quick test: both issues (audio scrubbing in source and magnetism) are resolved on my system. I will use the build for today’s work and get back to you if there are any issues, but I doubt I’ll find anything.
Thanks, this is a real life-safer for me!
