I got that popup saying that my video had a variable framerate which was not good for editing, and asked if I wanted to convert it. I chose the option that was in between lossy and lossless, and the resulting file was almost 17GB (for a video that was only about 24 minutes, which seems insane to me, but that’s a separate issue).
The problem is that my computer is not letting me delete it, even though Shotcut is closed. It doesn’t give me an error message or anything, it just does nothing. But it doesn’t seem like the file is actually deleted and Explorer is displaying an “echo” of it, because it still shows up when I search for it with a separate tool. Has anyone had any problem like this before? I really don’t want 17 useless gigabytes sitting on my computer forever.
I do not understand the problem you describe in Explorer, but if you delete a file, by default it is moved to the “Recycle Bin” and still taking space. Maybe when you search, this is what you see. You need to open the Recycle Bin and delete it from there. Otherwise, to permanently and immediately delete a file in Explorer you need to Shift+Delete it.
The next time you choose to convert maybe consider the default “good” option for a smaller file.

Nope, it’s not in the recycle bin, that’s the whole problem. When I press the delete key, it just does nothing. When I press Shift+Delete (the first thing I tried, long before I wrote this post), it just does nothing. If I try to move the file or rename it, Explorer locks up. It’s 16.7GB of dead weight, almost like Shotcut put a virus on my computer.

You know what would be even better is if Shotcut gave me some warning before it makes a file 22 times the size of the original (which was about 750 MB). That’s not what I’m expecting to happen when I choose the “intermediate” option. I wouldn’t even have expected the file to be that large if I chose the highest quality lossless option.
Did you reboot yet?
if Shotcut gave me some warning before
Shotcut includes a low disk space warning.

Then, you are not very experienced with video. Maybe you need less advanced software like a mobile video editor.
Did you reboot yet?
No, not yet. Why is your program making a file that forces me to reboot my computer before I can delete it?
Shotcut includes a low disk space warning.
I’m not talking about a low disk space warning, I’m talking about a “this is going to make a ridiculously large file” warning.

Lol, that’s basically what Shotcut already is compared to what I normally use. I use it to do simple things that I don’t need more advanced features for.
See, I can be a condescending douche too, but that’s not really productive, is it?

Never mind, I deleted it from Power Shell (I had to restart Explorer before even that worked).
I do not know. I have never seen what you describe. It sounds like possibly a Windows problem.

I will consider it.

Please go back to what you normally use.

Why even have a help section if you don’t want to help people?
