Linux users should check out the Celluloid video player

It is very good to checkout transparent videos made by Shotcut. because you can see a checkerboard is the footage is transparent.

there is a flatpak available at flathub.

You can also do this in Shotcut itself by adding the “Alpha Channel: View” filter and selecting “Display: Checkered Background”.
