It seems that my layout is different than all the videos i’ve seen. how do i make it like the videos?

There is nothing wrong that, and everyone’s layout is different. If you want the Timeline larger, drag the divider 
just above it upward.
This is basic stuff; please do at least a little bit of learning and trying before posting about it.
Move/resize/close/open panels you need/don’t need.
You can also undock and redock panels as you see fit.
Try different layouts, change things the way you want them and then save your current layout with Add for your own custom style.
