Hello,
While video clip (no matter which) is on the time line for any kind of editing.
Moving the playhead forward, the picture in the preview window responds imediately.
Moving the playhead backward by any means, the picture in the viewer window hesitates and responds later.
No changes made in settings, just a simple editing work.
Is it normal or any bug ?
Can it be fixed ?
Shotcut version 26.2.26
OS windows 10 pro, Winver 19045.6456 x 64.
Answers will be appreciated.
Thanks
Motim
This is normal for compressed video because it is optimized to be played in the forward direction, not backwards. There is a special type of video that can go backwards fast - but it takes way more space so regular cameras do not use it.
You can technically use proxies or use the convert function in properties - both of these are optimized types but it is not worth it unless you need to do this a lot.
The extremely slow reverse scrolling bothers me too.
This is by no means a normal behaviour, as every other video editor I’ve ever tried scrolls smoothly forwards -and- backwards.
They probably cache the video in RAM in uncompressed state around the playhead to make this smooth. But the downside is a lot more cpu and ram usage (and management).
I’d personally like a high RAM mode to use as much ram as possible for smooth editing as I have 32GB on my desktop. So this could be a nice feature to request.
