Keep the last version of a given year for bugfixes

it would been nice if there was a version that had bugfixes and only that, no new features that can break everything

like this

  • Shotcut 16.12 (will only receive backported bug fixes and only that)
  • Shotcut 17.00 and newer (new features and bug fixes)

next year it can be like

  • Shotcut 17.12 (only bugfixes)
  • Shotcut 18.00 or newer (new features and bug fixes)

Much like ubuntu does with their lts releases,

Ive used shotcut around a week now and am surprised this is by far the best editor, but i have a bunch of issues like really slow import of .jpeg files (60 5k jpeg = 60min!) opening a project with said files takes forever to load (taskmgr says it not responding but it does load after waiting a while)

Sorry, but I do not have time for that. Maybe in some future if this becomes full time work, but that is hard to do when you give the software away for free.

what about alternating?, like say
17.01 is a bugfix release, 17.02 is a feature release?

am just brainstorming here

It is not features that necessarily break things but changes to existing features. Rather, lately it has been bug fixes - sometimes for corner cases like being unable to load a file with a question mark in its name. Features instead tend to introduce new bugs. Most of 2016 has actually been about just fixing bugs. Now, I (and others) would like me to return to a major feature.
