Is there a way to keyframe audio changes via the axis control in the timeline?

I keep trying to do CTRL+click or ALT+click to try make dots or something so I can change the gain/volume for a part of a clip. After I make a dot, I would change the volume between dots. This would also allow us to fade audio volume between dots.

My ask is sort of similar to what you can do in Adobe Premiere.

Bonus question: When changing volume via timeline axis control, does it show anywhere the db change?

No, you need to use the Keyframes panel for that. The draggable line in Timeline is for simple audio volume only. You can start with that and switch to Keyframes for detail work.
