Is partial audio fade-out possible?

Is it possible with Shotcut to do a partial audio fade-out?
I mean to fade the audio to say 50% and have it hang at that level rather than only setting the duration of the fade which always fades the audio out completely.

seems like you could just apply a gain/volume filter at the end of your clip or track

Yep, keyframe the gain filter.
