Increasing transition duration in Shotcut after creation

Hello,

I’m new to Shotcut and am just starting to explore the software. I’m having trouble increasing the duration of a transition after it’s been created.

Here’s the situation:

  • I have two untrimmed clips.
  • I drag Clip B onto Clip A so they overlap, and a cross-fade transition is automatically created.
  • I decide to make the transition longer. I try dragging Clip B further left to increase the overlap, but it doesn’t work. I can shorten the transition by dragging its edges, but not lengthen it.

I understand that lengthening via the transition edges is not possible if there are no extra frames (handles) in the adjacent clips. But I expected to be able to increase the overlap by moving one of the clips.

Is this possible in Shotcut? If not, are there any known workarounds?

Thanks in advance!

That is not possible. You can only drag a clip involved in a transition away from the transition to shorten it. You can remove the transition and recreate it at a longer duration.

Ok, I see. Thank you for the clarification!
