image overlaying not working or I dont understand how to use it

I have a main video playing in v1, I have then put an image on v2 with size, position, rotate filter. I then used that filter to crop my image but when i play the video its just black and my background video isn’t there.

Click the V2 header to select the track and view Properties. It should say “Over.” That is the default.

If None, that is one way it can cause this problem (filter’s Background color appears to be transparent). Otherwise, another way this can happen is if the clip on V1 is transparent. You wrote “background video,” but what is it and what Filters did you add that can make it transparent at this time position?

I tried changing it to over and it did not resolve the issue. my V1 is a mp4, there are no filters added

There is no other explanation, and I do not have that problem on any version of Shotcut, and neither do most people. This is a basic function that works. Start a new project and try to recreate what you describe. I am not suggesting to start your project over. Make a simple test. Does it happen again? If not, then in your real project remove V2, add a new video track, and recreate the overlay.

thanks brother ill try

Hi @Cierra_Sexton

I think I found the same emoji as the one you use. It’s a JPG image with a white background. It works fine in my test project.

Try this to see what happens:

  • Select the emoji clip in the Timeline
  • Add a *Chromakey: Simple filter and move it above the Size, Position & Rotate filter.
  • Click on the Key color eyedropper button
  • Move the mouse cursor in the Preview and click anywhere in the white part of the emoji background.

Is the background around the emoji clip still back?

By the way here’s the emoji image I used. In case we don’t have the exact same one:

Hi @Cierra_Sexton
A (silly?) question:
Is the Size, Position & Rotate filter’s background alpha channel 0 or 255?
