Complete newb here, so please assume I know nothing. I have imported a playlist item, an mp4. I have dragged that item into the timeline to create a video track (history says: 1. Add video track, 2. Overwrite onto track.)
My overall purpose is to learn how to use Time Remap. When I attempt to select that in filters, I get a message that my file has “B-frames” and needs to be converted to an edit-friendly format. Because the file conversion takes a long time, and I just want a small clip to use to learn the time remap filter, I place the play head at the 5 second mark and click on Split. I then select the part to the right of the split, right click, and select ripple delete. My timeline now appears to be only 5 seconds long. I then go back through filter selection to time remap, and agree to convert my file (I have tried both “good” and “best” with the same result).
After the file conversion, I add the time remap filter and click over into the Keyframes view. In the video tutorial I’m watching, the white line across the bottom of the time section slants from bottom left to top right, indicating that by the time the selected clip is over, the entirety of video has played. On my screen, I see a flat line instead (I have already clicked “Zoom Keyframes to Fit”). When I investigate by moving the line up to increase the amount of the video that is played within the 5-second length of my clip, I find that all the rest of the video I thought I deleted is still there!
I cannot move the play head past the 5-second mark (neither in timeline or keyframe view), nor will the “hidden” part of the clip play if I just play from the beginning, but the “deleted” video is still clearly there, and I don’t know how to fully get rid of it so that the white line in the time remap thing manipulates only the 5 seconds of video I’m trying to work with.
Can anyone explain what I’m missing?
Thanks in advance!
