How to clean uninstall shotcut from windows 10

I’m user of shotcut since 2 years until now in windows 10 OS, and I feel utterly attached to the software because it’s very complete and I feel proud of being a learner yet. However I don’t feel I’m prepared to change the source of it , so by now my first solution is uninstall it and clean all files for a clean installation back, for it my first recommendation is move all your saved files to a USB stick, in the same USB stick open a file with the name of shotcut and download the portable ZIP file to it ( do not extract it yet) then follow the next route.
push the next keys of your keyboard " windows+R" then type control panel>left click “softwares”>left click "softwares and characteristics>left click “shotcut”>look up and left click uninstall. then wait for the uninstallation . after it be uninstalled? follow the next route : double left click local disk C>double left click “users”> double left click the name of the user>double left click “AppData”>double left click local> find the file named “meltytech” and delete,(ussually I looked for other files in program files but found nothing) then go to recycle bin and delete all , now ( in my opinion) the system is ready for the portable ZIP file and, right click “extract here” the portable ZIP file of the memory stick, once the software be extracted? look for the image name “shotcut.exe” and double left click on it and wait for the software to open, then ready to work back.
If by any means I forgot something? I would be greatly appreciated! , if you share your procedures in the comments of this post.

I would just use a small enough portable os, on a pendrive, and run shotcut on it. When I want a clean uninstall, I just format the whole pendrive and reinstall the os. In my case fedora.
Very different and weird indeed :joy:
But is a clean uninstall and install.
Regarding the speeds, it’s slow.

thank you for your comments, lately I noticed that another way to look for crashed files or bugs affecting the new instalation or runing of shotcut through the USB stick is search in “C drive” with the search bar at the right side of the route or url bar, search all files that include the name “shotcut,or .MLT file” so once the OS finds them? delete them according with the importance in the .exe of the software.

It indeed is true as far as I know myself. According to what Chatgpt says:-

Below is a detailed guide for a clean uninstallation of Shotcut on Windows, including instructions on removing registry entries. Please note: Editing the Windows Registry can be risky—always back up your registry or create a system restore point before proceeding.

1. Uninstall Shotcut from Windows

  • Close Shotcut:
Make sure Shotcut is not running.
  • Uninstall via Settings or Control Panel:
    • Open Settings > Apps (or Control Panel > Programs and Features).
    • Locate Shotcut in the list of installed programs, then click Uninstall and follow the on-screen prompts.

2. Remove Residual Files

  • Delete AppData Folders:
    • Press Win + R, type %APPDATA%\Shotcut, and press Enter. Delete the folder if it exists.
    • Repeat for %LOCALAPPDATA%\Shotcut.
  • Search for Leftovers:
You can use File Explorer’s search function (search for “shotcut”) to locate and remove any other remaining files.

3. Clean Up Registry Entries

Warning: Incorrect changes to the registry may cause system issues. Proceed only if you are comfortable and have created a backup.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Open Registry Editor:
  • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  1. Backup the Registry:
  • In Registry Editor, click File > Export.
  • Choose a location, name the backup file, and save it. This allows you to restore the registry if something goes wrong.
  1. Locate and Delete Shotcut-Related Entries:
  • Manual Navigation:
    Check the following common locations:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Shotcut
If this key exists, right-click it and select Delete.
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Shotcut
If present, right-click and delete it.
  • Using the Search Function:
    • Press Ctrl + F in Registry Editor.
    • Type Shotcut and press Enter.
    • For each found entry, verify that it relates to Shotcut (for instance, look at the key’s name and context).
    • Right-click the entry and select Delete if you’re sure it belongs to Shotcut.
    • Press F3 to continue searching until no further related entries are found.
  1. Optional – Check HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT:
  • Sometimes application-related entries may appear under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. If you find any Shotcut-related keys there and are confident they are not needed by any other program, you can delete them.

Final Tips

  • Double-Check Before Deleting:
Only remove registry keys that you are certain are associated with Shotcut. Deleting unrelated or shared entries might affect other applications.
  • Restart Your Computer:
After completing these steps, restart your computer to ensure that all changes take effect.

Following these steps will help you completely remove Shotcut and its related entries from your Windows system.

Thank you for your glad recommendation . I’ll try again but previously I’ll create the restore point if… :sob: something unexpected happens with the OS , although I’m wondering if through the CMD would do something as follows :
C;/windows/system32>dism /online /cleanup-image/restorehealth , after the…deleting of shotcut files?

I must say, that is very clever. I mean you are really clever. Why didn’t I think of that…

I would recommend using sfc /scannow first and then dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth if sfc finds the errors it can’t fix. I would still recommend creating a restore point if anything goes south.

Honestly there could be more easier ways that I or you may not know of, or even if we know we are not thinking of it.
