I have heard a lot of people talking about gpu effects being “too unstable”, but those posts are now too old and so I don’t know what is the current state of it. Although it is still written (unstable), so I am afraid of converting my project to gpu effects, and once I do it, I won’t be able to go back to default, meaning I would be done for if the editor crashes after some edits in that converted project, if this does happens, I will have to scarp that project and start a new from scratch, which will be annoying especially if you already done half the editing of that particular video. There is another reason I am afraid enabling that is my pc specs.
These are my specs:
i5 3570
8gb
GT710 2gb vram
Will the gpu effects work fine in these specs or its gonna be worse?(You may wonder how I am able to use shotcut in that garbage, well it runs fine, although will have to deal with shuttering in playback and a bit of freezing, other than that it never crashed really)
I can’t comment on how your old hardware will perform, but my experience is that GPU effects mode in shotcut is stable. I’ve been working exclusively with GPU effects enabled for several months now and can’t think of any stability issues I’ve had. This is with an i7 9770k, 16 GB RAM, and RTX 3060 12 GB, making 1080p videos.
I’m not on the very latest version - I’ve been using 25.05.11 since early July and a somewhat older version prior to that. But I don’t think I’ve seen reports of disastrous bugs in the forum so it’s likely that the current version is fine; it just doesn’t offer anything I really need so I’m not in a rush to upgrade.
I still have them not stable on my linuxmint system, sometimes there are bugs in the GUI and everything freezes. But they give unique effects, for example the glow effect, it works very well, unlike the software analogue.
