It’s easy to crossfade on a single track: just drag the tracks over each other.
However, I have been using multiple tracks to better organize my edits. This has been invaluable to keep track of what I’m doing. How do I then cross fade between videos on multiple tracks?
I’ve been using the “fade in” and “fade out” filters with the same duration on each, and just aligning them by eye by dragging them. How do I easily and quickly align these frame perfectly? Preferably without dragging anything around, I prefer to work with the keyboard instead of the mouse, if that’s possible here.
If you only need 1 second, you can double-click the fader control circles to toggle the fade between 1 second and off. Otherwise, see the Filters panel. These controls add filters with numeric fields and you can copy and paste either the time values or filters. Also, there is a “Set as default” button so the current time amount will be used whenever you add these filters using Filters rather than timeline faders. But also, when dragging the timeline fader controls there is a tooltip that appears that shows you the duration. As you zoom in on the timeline, this fader-dragging action is less motion sensitive.
Thank you! I have no issue with the process of adding the filters to the clips, and thank you for those tips so that this process is now even easier!
The issue I’m running into is how to align the clips in terms of timestamps so, for example, there is exactly 1 second of overlap. I can see the fade shown as a diagonal line on each clip, but how do I make sure these are exactly aligned, besides just doing my best to eyeball it?
Double-click a clip to seek to it, or use the keyboard shortcut to Skip Next/Previous (Player menu).
Then, use keyboard shortcuts to seek by some seconds (Player menu).
Now, utilize snap to the play head when moving or trimming.
For anyone running into a similar issue, I’m mainly doing alt + right arrow three times to get to the end of the clip, then page up to step back by 1 second, then dragging the next clip to align it perfectly. This method worked well to quickly perfectly align all fades in my project.
If you are doing a different time besides 1 second, you will have to adjust your navigation sequence of keystrokes of course.
