Help with video created by Camstudio using x264vfw

Shotcut version 17.08.01 / Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64

Apologies if my search skills are lacking.

I created a video without sound using camstudio with compressor named “x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec”

The video playback works well with stock Windows Media Player. When I load it up in Shotcut, I only get a black screen.
The only messages I get in the shotcut-log.txt are:

Point me in the right direction to resolve?

Is it a general problem with Shotcut on your system? IOW, do any other videos play?
Quite likely the video cannot be understood, and there is no solution within Shotcut. Look in the Properties to see if a valid video track is listed. You may need to convert it or re-encode it using a different tool to use it in Shotcut.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I downloaded a bunch of sample videos (mp4, flv, mkv) and all of them showed a black screen during playback.

I checked out the FAQ, but I’m still not having much luck. For some reason I couldn’t find the option to turn GPU processing on or off as well. I forgot to mention I’m using Nvidia GT520 video with updated drivers.

Shotcut looks like a fantastic piece of software that I really wanna love - I just got to get it working! :wink: I’m willing to put in the work and share my results though.

By default, GPU processing should be off. Look under Settings and make sure there is NO checkmark in front of ‘GPU Processing (experimental)’.

On my PC - an AMD APU running Linux Mint 17.3 - Shotcut is stable and runs reliably with crashes rare. On this vary same rig Kdenlive has some very obvious video problems, and if it survives resizing the monitor window it crashes trying to import any file. Further, if I boot Knoppix 7.7.1 from a flash drive Kdenlive runs pretty well but Shotcut won’t run!

Do all the sample videos run without problems using VLC media player?

More than likely Shotcut is display routines are somehow incompatible with your system. Dunno why and I have no suggestion about how to get it working.

That option is not visible under Settings anywhere. There is no option to check or uncheck. Advice?

To your other question - all sample videos play using the default Windows Media Player (WMP). I have yet to try VLC - but the assumption is: If it plays in WMP then it should play in VLC…riiiight? :slight_smile: I’ll get VLC loaded anyway just to confirm.

edit: I loaded up vlc and the video(s) play without a hitch.

I have some experience with applications and programming. Perhaps I can help troubleshoot it? Do you have any advice on where to start looking? Nothing in the logs really stood out though. I may not be looking in the right place. Is there a verbose debugging option?

edit: I’m reading up on what libfftw3f-3.dll is and what it does related to shotcut.

I have two files named libfftw3f-3.dll - one is in the root of the shotcut folder 2.48mb (no version info) and the other is in shotcut\lib\ladspa (2.6mb (no version info). The log says the app is calling dll at Shotcut\lib\ladspa
