Greetings, I’m new to Shotcut Forum and this is my first question I ask. Despite being new here, I’m not new to Shotcut itself at all. I first downloaded the software a year ago and I was using it just fine for a couple of months then I stopped. Now after almost a year I thought of returning to it and to my surprise; it now has a problem it never had before.
So what’s the problem? It’s actually quite annoying, you see. So I work on my videos long and hard and finally I get to export it, and there’s nothing wrong with exporting. The process goes normal. The problem is with the final result. The product, the video I get out of Shotcut is too laggy. It lags every 2 seconds. It goes normal for 2 seconds then it stops then it does it again and again and again…
Now to be clear here, I do have a very slow computer. And I feel like it can’t handle exporting the video correctly. I feel like reducing some quality settings or something would help. But I’m not sure what to do for I when export just choose H.264 High Profile and hit “export”.
And here I am begging you to tell me what I can change to make it better. I really feel like the problem can be solved from messing with the exporting settings. Also, it doesn’t matter how short or how much edits I’ve done to my video. It always gets this problem with performance.
The video looks pretty normal inside of Shotcut itself but when it gets out…BOOM, a beast is born.
I would really appreciate it if someone gives me a solution. Please and Thank you, you awesome little birds:)
This might be a problem with the format of the source clips and seeking on them, but this periodic pausing and resuming sounds strange. It can help if you can post the video somewhere with a link here for us to see it. You should make some experiments with a new project with the video clips having this problem. Just make a simple project using the videos and no filters and export to see if the problem still exists. Try to figure out where the problem is - in your project or with reading the video files. Another thing to try, in Export, turn off Parallel Processing and make a test export.
While this might not fix your issue, I see from your video that you have an outdated version of Shotcut since it doesn’t have Keyframes on the top menu. They were added back in May. The latest version is 18.08.14 and you can download it at the main Shotcut website from the downloads page.
Since your source video is the output video from your OBS session, it might help if you share what settings for recording you are using in OBS for video, audio, etc…
Also, in Shotcut do you have the “GPU Effects” option on or off? It’s in the settings menu.
Open one of the source videos in Shotcut, go to Properties, does it say “(variable)” after the frame rate? Next, go to menu button in Properties and choose More Information… copy and paste that text into here. It seems like a compatibility issue between the source clip and Shotcut, and you probably need to convert the video to an edit-friendly format (a menu item in the Properties menu).
