When I save the video edits and re-open the file, the cut transitions that I put change from to Custom - Color #808080. Why is that?
I guess the transitions are not quite connected to the videos.
You need to explain that better. A “cut” transition means something specific, and you can actually make cut transitions in Shotcut by not creating a transition at all. There is a bug in current version and fixed for the next that if you delete a transition and undo it, then it will be replaced by black with text “INVALID”. However, I have never seen where it gets replaced by middle gray #808080. Perhaps you should include a screenshot that shows us what you are seeing.
