I’m new to video editing (so… sorry for this kind of question). I have a Radeon 5500 XT graphics card and enabled hw acceleration (h264_vaapi is selected). Encoding a 55min video takes about 45min and readontop shows me a not-so-high gpu usage. Now I wonder if everything is working as expected (and it’s just me as a newbie) or if there’s somethong wrong.
Here is what radeontop tells me:
Read the FAQ about CPU and GPU usage. It is normal that hardware encoding will not max out the GPU. Right click the export job and view its log to look for VAAPI messages.
Thanks. I did read the FAQ, but I was still unsure. Is it normal that the encoding process only using the CPU is as twice as fast than using the GPU (Ryzen 5 3600 / Radeon 5500 XT)?
