GPU Acceleration on Linux

Dear Community,

If I’m not mistaken, some time ago the advised GPU card was the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti…

I’m running Shotcut on Linux and I have an old Radeon HD 7700… Would a Radeon 5500 XT be a good option? I would like to avoid the installation of the proprietary Nvidia drivers on Linux.

Many thanks in advance for your understanding.

Yeah, the 5500 XT is capable of H.264 and H.265 decoding and encoding, much like the 1650 Ti.
With the bonus of AMD’s great support on Linux.

Thanks IMY. I bought one and I will share the results as soon as I replace the old card…

Dear Community,

Shotcut version 26.8.1:

5500XT rendering a 4 video track / 2 audio track project 12:06 minutes long: 10:14 minutes…

Note: I used the kisak-mesa repo - Linux mint 22.3.

Software rendering took 13:10 minutes.

I’m happy with the improvement.
