Goodbye Shotcut on Gentoo

Gentoo has just decided to remove Shotcut from its repository since it still needs QtWebKit.
That’s a real pity and other distributions will follow sooner or later.

That’s fine. Shotcut is not officially supported when it is bundled with a distribution. Distros often mess up the installation and the forum gets questions in the style of “I don’t have Filter X because a library is missing”. The distros are also usually months behind the current version. So this is actually a good thing from a support standpoint for us and a usability standpoint for the users. They will have to get the official installer from the Shotcut site now.

QtWebKit is removed for the next version 20.10, which is in beta. Maybe you can campaign to reinstate it.

P.S. The release notes made clear this direction.
