getting rid of these WHITE lines in TRANSITION

Hi there,

I’m fairly new to Shotcut, and have an ERROR or bug or problem to resolve here.
In my video I have an IMAGE to VIDEO transition at the beginning, and then a VIDEO to IMAGE transition at the end. BOTH of these transitions are leaving WHITE lines at the edge of the video, for the duration of the transition.

I’ve tried widening the images, and changing transitions from DISSOLVE to others, but there has been NO difference. Again, these lines ONLY appear during the transition.

I have a SCREENSHOT of them here.
Can anyone help me fix this ?
Thanks very much

Would you be willing to share one of the image so we can try it? Maybe we will find a clue.

Thanks for responding Brian,

Not sure what you mean.

Can you see the SCREENshot I posted here ?

I’m asking if you can upload the source files. It would also be helpful to see a screenshot of your project (like the whole Shotcut window).

this is the image I added to the timeline…

as you can see… no white lines.

and this is a screenshot of my Shotcut window with my project open in it…..

just an FYI … all other transitions in the video are fine…

the ONLY ones that are a problem (with these WHITE lines), are the IMAGE to VIDEO transition at the beginning, and then a VIDEO to IMAGE transition at the end.

I think it would help if your image was the same size and ratio as your project.

Try with this one:

thanks, but I already tried with a square image at first, and it didn’t fit the 9 x 16 aspect ratio. .. so it looked like a box fading into a rectangle.

Then I made sure to change entirety of the content, (all video clips and 2 images) to the same aspect ratio, which is 9 x 16, in order to fit into the average phone size for viewing.

According to your screen capture, your project ratio is 16:9, not 9:16

And the new image I made has a 16:9 ratio

but when I go to Export, THIS is what I get …

Did you change the aspect ration yourself in the export panel?

I cannot remember if it started off as a 16 x 9 or not…

but learning as I go, before I imported all my clips, I edited them into 9 x 16 individually…

from Settings, Video mode, custom, etc.,

then also exported the whole project as 9 x 16

I have to go to bed now, but will check in here in the morning…

your precious time is much appreciated,

thank you <3

I now know the resolution was too high, without making much difference in quality….

but even before I changed it the lines were still there

any news ???

I still see the white lines, and uploaded both screenshots as requested …
has anyone tested this case, or come up with any solutions ?

thanks in advance ~
much appreciated <3

The problem occurs because the intro2_image.jpg aspect ratio does not match the project exactly. Shotcut pads images with transparent black. During the transition the black background of the image does not blend with the video where the borders are transparent. You need to force the entire image to opaque. To do that add the video filter Alpha Channel: Adjust to the image. In the filter change Mode to Reset; that makes the entire image transparent. Click the Invert checkbox; that makes the entire image opaque.

thank you so much <3
I assume that before I add the filter, I select that image… correct ?

will it affect the way the image looks ?

I’m asking because I have the same problem at the end of the video, with a 2nd image that has very important text on it, that needs to stay visible.

much appreciated :folded_hands:

Yes, of course, selection is an extremely important, fundamental concept in Shotcut. The image appearance will not be affected. Add the filter to both image clips on the timeline.

OMG  it WORKED !!
been struggling with this for almost a whole week now…
and cannot THANK YOU enough :revolving_hearts:

bless you :folded_hands:
