Feature request: guidelines in the reframe tool

Hello everyone,
I have been using Shocut since 2017 and am impressed by the great features that are available in the software today. I particularly like the resize/reframe option, which allows me to easily crop my video from 16:9 of the original material to 9:16 for Instagram and TikTok. In my opinion, the end result would be easier and more aesthetically pleasing if the cropping tool not only had presets, but also had scalable guides in the selection that moved accordingly with the selection. Similar to the cropping tool in Gimp or Photoshop, where you have guides for the golden ratio, rule of thirds, etc. When filming with my camera in 16:9, I also have fixed guides on the display for image design and composition.
Is there a way to implement this, or is there already a workaround?
Thank you very much. Maximilian

Reframe Output Video Filter does have presets

I do not understand what this means, but we have the player grid button with some guides: view-grid

Hello,

Sorry for my late reply.

I know that the Reframe Output Video filter has presets, which is handy so you don’t always have to enter the correct aspect ratios manually.

I am familiar with the fixed grid lines that can be displayed on the timeline or source material preview, but they are only of limited help to me.

In Gimp, for example, there is a checkbox for fixed aspect ratio in the crop tool, which means that the aspect ratio remains the same when moving or scaling the image. This tool also includes grids for alignment and cuts based on the golden ratio, rule of thirds, center lines, etc., which move and scale along with the selection frame when it is moved or scaled. A rigid grid of guides can also be easily overlaid in Gimp, but without the correct scaling guides in the tool, it is not possible to achieve an aesthetically pleasing alignment of the crop. When filming on a smartphone or system camera, you also have the corresponding guides for image composition in 16:9, and when changing the image format in Shotcut, the original image composition must not be altered by the new (and imprecise) crop through the Reframe filter.

In Shotcut, I have also noticed that after I have selected the preset and want to move or scale freely within the frame, the selection frame no longer adheres to the previously selected aspect ratio, but distorts completely. At least in Word, you can scale an image in two ways (freely and with a fixed aspect ratio in the GUI or with Shift and the mouse).

Thank you very much for your feedback.
