Fades in Shotcut not working consistently

Shotcut version 23.06.14, Intel(R) Core™ i3-9100 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz, 8.00 GB (7.81 GB usable), 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I just downloaded Shotcut version 23.06.14 and started a new project. Fade in and fade out didn’t work, so I checked out the Shotcut forum where it said “So my suggestion to you is to re-install Shotcut 21.03.21 (the recommended version) and make sure you tick the box to clear the registry entries.” So I uninstalled the old Shotcut program and reinstalled the newest version and ticked the box to clear the registry entries. (GPU is not checked in “settings”)

  1. Added audio track with audio
  2. Added .JPEG image then added fade in filter. ‘Adjust opacity instead of fade to black’ not checked (which worked), then added fade out filter which didn’t work. I did check the ‘Adjust opacity instead of fade to black’ box.
  3. Added “Open Other” Color (transparent) to playlist, then added it to the timeline. Added ‘fade in’, ‘fade out’ & ‘simple text’ filters (in that order). I did check the ‘Adjust opacity instead of fade to black’ box. The fade in and out filters both didn’t work.

I have uploaded 9 other videos to Youtube using the older version of Shotcut. Now I’ve spent hourd trying to figure out why these filters don’t work. Please help.

  1. added fade out filter which didn’t work.

It works for me.

I did check the ‘Adjust opacity instead of fade to black’ box.

You cannot fade the opacity of anything on V1 and see a result because it is not blending with anything (no lower video track to show something else). What do you expect to see when you look out a window?

Added ‘fade in’, ‘fade out’ & ‘simple text’ filters (in that order). I did check the ‘Adjust opacity instead of fade to black’ box. The fade in and out filters both didn’t work.

Filter order is important; so, usually you want the fade video filters last or after a text filter.

Once I added the ‘Text; simple’ first, then the fade in & fade out filters after it, it seems to work OK.
