Fade filter does not work without clip under it

What is your operating system?
Windows 11
What is your Shotcut version (see Help > About Shotcut)?
Shotcut 25.01.25
Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?
Fade in and fade out not working, even though its already applied.

how to reproduce :

  1. open file
  2. add blank Video track (V2)
  3. add jpg on Video Track (V2)
  4. slice video (V1)
  5. fade in and fade out JPG V2

it will says that i put filters already, but the end result will not have a filtered effect

The default mode is to use transparency to blend with the clip underneath. But since you are blending with nothing, that doesn’t work.

Uncheck this box to make it fade to black:

Or, put something under your clip so it can blend into that.

got it! do Shotcut have a tick box to, somekind of autodetect whether theres nothing beneath the video, so it will default to uncheck “adjust opacity…”?
