It would be really helpfull to be able to be able to choose only to export chosen clips and be able to export certain layers of the timeline.
Say you have 3 video timelines and maybe an audiotimeline. Then under export options to be able to check 1-all of the timelines. This way it’s easy to export the sound only by detaching it from video and putting it on its own timeline and when exportet alle the empty space “in the ends” will be cut off.
Right now Shotcut can’t pick certain layers to extract only however there is a new “Extract Sub-clip” feature that was added in the September version. That only allows you to export one at a time the individual clips you created in one video or audio track. Go to Properties on any clip and to the right of “Reset” you’ll see the menu option. Hit that and you’ll see it as the last option there.
You can export the sound only by either choosing one of the audio presets in the Export menu or by manually choosing to disable the video in the Codec tab also in the Export menu. Also while the detach audio option from a video track is there you can also just copy and paste the video track unto an audio track and mute the video track manually.
I didn’t know about the first option, so thank you.
I don’t know if I have done it wrong, but when I export it as an audiofile to only get the audio, then there will be a silent period where there was video in the project, but no audio and then the audio will come in.
The track hide and mute buttons accomplish this.

That is fundamentally not how a Timeline works. Clips on a timeline start at specific times. You are using the wrong feature for the job. There will never be an option to export the Timeline like this. Use Playlist instead of the Timeline for this. Yes, this might mean you need to create a new playlist-only project for that purpose. Yes, you can export a playlist. I am trying to add the feature of multiple playlists in the same project. It might also be nice to copy a clip from the Timeline directly to the Playlist to facilitate that. Today, you can do that by Copy, which puts it in the Source player, and then you can drag from Source player to Playlist.
All right - obviously I am not as deep into the project as you, so thank you for pointing these things out
