When I transfer images from the playlist to the timeline their default duration is 00:00:00:01, forcing me to zoom the timeline till the image is big enough to select and modify the duration. Is there a way to change the duration before I drop it on the timeline?
- Double-click the playlist item to open it in the Source player.
- Change Properties > Duration.
- Click Set Default button next to it to establish the new default duration for all images added directly to Playlist or Timeline in the future (not existing playlist items).
Thanks. So if I delete the photos from the playlist and reload them they will be at the default?

That should not be the case. The timing of a playlist item is very important; it does not change by changing a default.

Or, better yet, try both and figure it out.
Just to confirm - I just tested it and found that in fact I DO have to delete all items from the playlist and re-import, after changing the default duration.
