Hi,
When you butt two clips together on the timeline - then drag the right clip over the left clip - the default is always a dissolve. How can you disable this and just have the right clip overwrite the left clip? Is this even possible in Shotcut? (looked everywhere for an answer, no luck)
Thanks.
Not available. You are supposed to trim instead. Trim the out point of the clip on the left with and without Ripple mode turned on to see the difference.
@space_food , just to let you know there’s a “CUT” option in the drop-down menu of the properties panel (To access it, select the transition and go to “Properties”). You can also select a percentage of when the cut happens (50% would cut half way through the transition).
@shotcut is right, though, if you don’t want a transition, no need to drag one clip over the other.
Edit:
A possible workaround or method of operation to achieve the same goal:
- Move the 2nd clip to an empty track above, releasing the left mouse button.
- Move the 2nd clip down to the track and then over the 1st clip.
This works in either direction.
The same could be achieved using the playlist.
It is not a good idea to rely upon this always working.
The only reason I know about this is because of my failure to embrace using more keyboard shortcuts, thus making unintended overwrites.
But seem to always use CTRL Z without pause.
Thanks all for the info. I will save this thread as a single file and add to my tutorial refrence folder.

That .gif is terrific. Another keeper.
