digitized old, very old film

Hello,
I have digitized old, very old film (45Years).
I’m not completely satisfied with the quality!
Is there a way to improve the quality?
Extrapolate the resolution?
Recalculate pixels?
I tried to increase the resolution via export, frame rate but everything didn’t change! Thanks for hints

Typically, you need to:

  • crop out the fuzzy edges and sprocket holes (unless you want to keep those for its look)
  • stabilize if you have any judder from the camera or digitzer film mechanics
  • adjust colors and dynamic range
  • remove noise
  • sharpen

I recommend in these order. Stabilize depends on the framing of the content done by cropping, but it runs slower if the color, noise, & sharpen filters are already added.

Hello,
I digitized Wolverine with a scanner. No sprocket holes.
Maybe it’s fantasy, in feature films you often see that very blurred images are recalculated by surveillance cameras and a clear picture is created.
Maybe I’m expecting too much from Shotcut?

feature films are fiction, you can’t do that in real life like that.
AI can be used to regenerate bad picture, but not in the way and with the speed, you see in movies.
