Deleting ripple with shortkey x

Just a question if this is normal:

If I am editing in the video timeline and want to remote free ripple, I often remove another video part…

I click with left mouse on the free ripple and want to delete it with x. But then it deletes another video clip.
I first need to click with left mouse on it, then with right mouse. And then key x.
Why is this so complicated?
Would be easier if it directly selects that part if I hit the left button.

“free ripple” does not mean anything to us.

This is called ripple.

I hit it with left mouse, but it is not selected. If hitting it with left and then with right mouse button, menu opens. Then the menu can be closed and then I can hit button x to delete

That is called a blank, gap, or empty space. All you need to do is right click and pick the menu item.

If nothing is selected many edit functions affect the thing under the play head.
There is a keyboard shortcut that can select the topmost thing under the playhead. Ctrl+Space.

Ok thank you!

I german language, I sometimes saw the english word “ripple” so I thought you also call the empty space ripple. Sorry for that.

For me it is confusing that I can select all video parts with left mouse, only the free space needs to be clicked with right mouse.
I try to directly select it with right mouse in future

Thanks for the hint with that shortcut!

BTW, empty space is also called ripple in the shortcut list here:

Ripple Delete X or Shift+Del or Shift+Backspace

No, it is not. Ripple is completely different and explained in our Glossary in the User Guide. I will leave it as an exercise for you to learn how to locate it.

There is no reason to select a gap except to remove or replace it. You cannot move it individually or include it in a group. You cannot get its Properties or attach Filters to it. No software that you do not make will ever work exactly the way you want it to. I make this the way I want it to work.

Right, this is the only thing I want to do sometimes.

Sorry to disturb you with this topic.

You can use the shortcuts Ctrl + the arrows to move the selection between clips (and empty spaces) in the Timeline.

When the empty space you want to delete is selected, press X

Thank you, this is also an easy solution!
