Deleting Projects in Recent does not delete the asociated files in W10

Windows 10

shotcut 24.06.26

Although I shared the videos Dir in C: the files belonging to the project that I have just deleted via “Recent” are not deleted.

This causes the danger of overflowing partitions.

Easy to repeat. Just share the folders with full authority and delete any project with “Recent”. Then look if the associated files in the shotcut dir are also deleted.

This is not a bug. We aren’t going to do that.

Use WinDirStat

Thank you for your reply. Since I didn’t know it happened to me Newbie that a partition was 100% full and I couldn’t create any new project.
It’s ok if you are not going to do that, but a hint to that fact that appears when s.o. is deleting a project like “user must take care deleting associated files in the OS himself” would be nice with the option: “Don’ show this message again”.

Thank you for your answer, but that’s not the point.
The point is to be aware of the fact that these files will not be deleted when I delete a project in :Recent".

NLE software, like Shotcut, is usually a non-destructive editor. It never changes or overwrites or deletes the original source files.

Thank you for you reply. First I don’t know what the abbreviation NLE means. Second I’m not talking about the original source files. Certainly they should not be touched. I’m talking about the files on OS level that where created by the application. These should be deleted too when I delete a project in recent as they where created by the project.
Since they are on the C: partition this might require additional authorizations like a share which gives the application the right to delete them. Since the user deleted the project he obviously does not need them any more. But a popup informing him of that fact would be sufficient with a checkbox “Don’t show this message again”. Since he only needs to see this once and ;afterwards he/she already knows about his part of deleting the associated project files.

Which files are these? I’m confused. There are source files, optimized files, proxy files, stabilization files, motion track files, export files, and a project file. Which of those should be deleted? There are technically thumbnail and audio peak “files”, but those are internal to Shotcut.

Non-Linear Editor. Basically, a modern digital video editor, as opposed to a Linear editor that used tape many years ago. By nature, NLEs do not delete files. The user may choose to reuse them for another project.

Thank you for the explanation. I’m talking about the project files under

Although these only contain the mlt files with some kilobyte. These should be deleted.
Because you delete project with “Recent” as they are completed or you don’t want them any more for another reason like clearness/clarity of your current projects and the old stuff causes confusion. But if I see them under videos again this might cause confusion as you know that you did delete them in shotcut.
In an earlier version rela big videos created by the project where stored in the place that you can customize as to where app data shall be stored. Which is on my PC drive G.
This version only stores small files that maybe necessary for shotcut’s internal architecture. So they don’t bother me any more. But the one under C drive do disturb me.
And certainly no source file and no file created by export should be touched.
Hope you understand my request now better. For project deleted under “Recent” I’ve deleted the C drive files myself already.

Very strange, obviously you changed my shotcut by remote access as the layout is changed to dark, the recent projects were deleted, the customized added video modes deleted, but when I enter a new project name a blue hint appears that there will be files created in the project folder. Great! That’s all I wanted. Thank you!
