The issue seems to be a known (allegedly fixed) bug in Qt.

This problem was (supposedly) fixed in Qt 5.0.5, however there are still some who say it isn’t (not sure if it is fixed in a later Qt release than what Shotcut is using):

When making video tutorials it is important that the cursor be highlighted,

Unfortunately, this seems to be impossible using Shotcut under Linux, at least under Ubuntu (Kubuntu flavor)…

THE WORK-AROUND - for highlighted cursor for tutorial videos using Shotcut on Kubuntu (KDE) and some other varieties of Linux:

1. Open Shotcut first.
2. Go to SystemSettings:WorkspaceTheme:CursorTheme
3. Pick your highlighted cursor (You must first search and install these, from the same window)
4. Record your tutorial.
5. DON’T EXIT SHOTCUT (if you do, you must select the highlighted cursor again)

Sur mon vieil OSX 10.11 quand je modifie la taille du curseur avec les préférences Système, le curseur avec SC apparait ainsi:
Le gros curseur du système et un autre taille normal par dessus.

On my old OSX 10.11 when I change the size of the cursor with System Preferences, the cursor with SC appears like this:
The big system cursor and another normal size on top.
