Crop to underlying layer

Hello forum, maybe the answer is familiar, but I can’t find anything helpful on this topic.

I have three layers. The background is a video. In front of it is a thought bubble. The horse should be in front of or “inside” the thought bubble (where the thought bubble is green). My knowledge isn’t helping me. Is there a filter that limits the horse’s layer to the green area of the thought bubble?

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Florian

Transform your Buble.png as follows.
Make the green transparent and the transparent green. Leave the white and black.
Place the horse on V1 and your Buble on V2.
Adjust the horse in the bubble with an SPR filter.

Export the image.
Now place your video on V1 and the exported image on V2.
Move it with an SPR filter.
Add a simple chromakey filter set to green.

Hello Namna, that’s an interesting idea. Instead of having one video with three layers, I have two videos, each with two layers. The “bubble video,” as you described, has a green background around the bubble, and the moving content inside the bubble. After exporting, the “bubble video” is placed on top of the “background video,” the surrounding greenery is removed, and that’s it.

I’ll try it. The disadvantage: Subsequent adjustments, as would be possible with three layers, are only possible by subsequently changing the bubble video and re-exporting. But that’s fine with me.

Mais ça me va.

Thanks! Florian
Merci! Florian

A possible alternative with an animated image in the bubble, still with 2 projects:
Instead of exporting the image, save the project.

In the 2nd project, place your video on V1, and on V2, open the 1st MLT file as a clip.

Any changes made to the first project (unless you extend the clips) will be automatically integrated into the 2nd project.

I did it in 3 video tracks in one project by effectively making and editing a copy of the speech bubble PNG. Since I do not have that image, I simulated it with Glaxnimate. This only works if you already have the bubble sized and positioned correctly within the frame! In other words, you would need to use an external image editor to stage that.

Basically, use the original image on the clip in track V2 with the Mask: From File filter, set to be based on the Alpha channel.
Then, modify the copied speech bubble to make the inside of the bubble transparent instead of green, and place that on V3.
