Crash when adding long video to timeline Qt6 6.10.2 [Solved]

I’m using CachyOS (Linux) and the latest Shotcut version 26.2 has just been installed.

The problem occurs when I add a second video to the timeline, Shotcut starts to slow, then the whole desktop (Cinnamon) crashes.

I rebooted into Arch Linux and have the same problem.

I then downloaded the AppImage for Shotcut 26.2.26 which uses Qt 6.8.3 and this also crashes when a second video is added to timelime.

In edit mode, playback on the timeline using space become choppy.

I also have the same problem with the 26.1.30 version so I have reverted back to AppImage 25.12.31 which does not experience this problem.

Brief Hardware Details:

Intel i5 2.8G

8G DDR3 memory

Graphics ATI 5770 1G VRAM (quite old card but still works well).

Perhaps my hardware is too slow,

but thanks in advance for any help.

Try disabling Settings > Preview Scaling > Use Hardware Decoder

Dan, thank you so much!

That has solved the problem and adding, moving or deleting any video or audio track work

perfectly.

Will mark as solved confirmed working in CachyOS and Arch Linux both using Qt 6.10.2

I am also sure the AppImage 26.2.26 will work with those settings as well.
