Shotcut closes automatically when using the RGB Offset filter.
Since Shotcut version 26.1.30
In my current project, since November 2025, I have the RGB Offset filter on the second image. Since the current version, Shotcut closes automatically when it reaches this point. It took me a while to figure this out. I only noticed it during export, as it always stopped after 2 seconds. The error log said “aborted at 1st song.” But as soon as I activate the RGB Offset filter, no matter where, Shotcut closes without warning.
Please fix this.
Thank you very much.
- I am using Windows 11 Home 25H2, operating system build 26200.7705, feature pack Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.291.0.
- The resolution is 1920x1080p at 59.94 fps.
- The process mode is Native 8-bit CPU (fast, flexible).
- Created via File → New → Text → Rich. Additional filter → Crop: Circle. That’s all. As soon as the RGB offset filter is added, Shotcut hangs for 1 second and then closes.
I just tested it with a new project, also 1920x1080p 59.94 fps, and got exactly the same result.
Thanks, I tried with your configuration while varying the RGB Shift values during looping playback, and eventually it crashed. There were some recent changes in the upstream project that were in version 25.12 as well, which version I also reproduced it.
When reproducing in my development environment that has a crash log, it crashed in the rgbsplit0r_extract_color() function that simple and has not changed in 10 years. But that function could be given some bad pointers. This technical info is mostly notes for us developers.
I didn’t have this problem with version 25.12 either. It first occurred with version 26.1.
It first occurred during export, as Brian reported from another user. As soon as he got to the part with the RGB shift filter, the export stopped. Shotcut always crashed when playing the video from the playback bar.
