Crash bringing playlist clips into video timeline

  • What is your operating system?

Fedora Linux 6.14.6-300.fc42.x86_64

  • What is your Shotcut version (see Help > About Shotcut)?

shotcut.x86_64: version 25.05.11-1.fc42

  • Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?

Here are a couple of examples. First one is a recent clip. Second one is a clip from several months ago.

Attempted to drag video clip (2025…mp4) from playlist into V1 timeline. Either does not respond or completely crashes.

In a prior video completed with Shotcut, upon opening the MLT file, the clips in playlist does not show the image. Instead its a garbage look. Also crashes if you try to drag any new clips into timeline.
Tried to drag the pexe…mp4 clip into V2 timeline and it crashed also.

We have had other reports on GitHub of the Fedora package not working reliably. I am not in a position to debug their build, and you should use our FlatHub Flatpak instead.

Interestingly, the FlatHub FlatPak worked on my wife’s system – she’s the one who had the trouble – but it won’t even launch on mine. I tried to run the FlatPak version from the command line to get an error msg, but there is no cmd line executable link. How to trace?

Because it worked on my wife’s system, and she’s doing the most work with it lately, the FlatPak version is good for now, but it doesn’t work on mine. The RPM works on mine. I’m not wild about the disconnect. Suggestions?

flatpak run org.shotcut.Shotcut

Is how to launch from command line, but I have never dealt with the problem you describe and neither very advanced with Flatpak. You can search the web for how to run a Flatpak in a debugger such as gdb.

Thanks for that flatpak run command line.

Why my system won’t run the flatpak version and will run the dnf version, while my wife’s system will run flatpak and has trouble with the dnf version is puzzling. Who would I bring that problem to? Who maintains the dnf variant?
